A Little Sinner Redeemed.

On Friday night our church hosted a "night of worship". Our whole family was there and one of my favorite parts of worship nights is the communion. It's open communion and ever since we were early married David has always done it with me and eventually with our children. The kids look forward to it as well and Friday night was no different.

Except for one thing.

During our family communion time as David was talking about the significance of the juice and bread he looked over at Silas and asked if he knew what he was talking about. Silas said "no, but I'm a listening". We all giggled. David explained further and Silas' face was filled with questions. David asked Silas if he wanted to live his whole life for Jesus. He said he did. Nichol and I got all teary. What ensued was the most beautiful prayer I've ever heard. We're not big on the "canned prayers" and have always let the kids say whatever they wanted and work with it from there. Silas' prayer went like this.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for all the good things you give us. You give us lots of good things. Thank you for Jesus. I know that I need to do what Jesus wants me to do and not what I want to do. I want to do that. I know I do lots of bad things please forgive me. I want to live for you forever. Amen.

He leveled his mama and his sister. We were both bawling. I was so amazed at the words that came out of this wee boys mouth, the grin across his face when we were done and how proud he was to take communion and explain to his daddy what it was.

We love you Silas, we're so proud of you and your bold faith for Jesus.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:8-10

Praise Jesus! I asked him on Saturday, "So, Silas, are you a Christian?" And he said, "What's that?" And I said, "It means you love Jesus and want to obey Him." He said. "Oh yea! then I'm a Christian." Precious.

It takes a different (courageous) type of person to do what the two of you are doing.

Nice work. I came across your blog while “blog surfing” using the “Next Blog” button in the Nav Bar at the top of my blogspot blog. I occasionally just check out other blogs to see what others are doing.
