Christmas Is Almost Here & New Hair!

An effort to get caught up here I'm combining. ;)

While Davids parents were here Gramma did lots of projects with the kids. She brought lots of crafts and here they are making sweet little bear ornaments for the tree. Its a Shubin family tradition back home to make a new bear every year for the tree. Its really fun to look back at all the ones we've made.

Fun settings on Davids camera - isn't the tree pretty?!

And what it really looks like. I had some crazy lighting going on so excuse the flash spots.
The grand babies with Davids parents.
Moving on.....

Look at this cute faced boy? Look at this cute faced boys hair. Its cute huh? Yes its a rather rockin' fro! We've let it grow since we brought him home. We love it.

Its a lot of work. Lots of work. Work that Silas doesn't appreciate. Work that requires combing. Work that eventually ends in tears. Every. Single. Day. Its not worth it. Silas decided he was done with it and asked if we could CUT his hair. Silas' mommy gasped. Silas' daddy wasn't so sure. Silas' siblings weren't so sure. Silas was sure. Look at that amazing fro. Silas wasn't having it.

Meet Maritza. Maritza is nice. Maritza loves Silas. Silas loves Maritza. Maritza met with us last week giving us hair suggestions. Silas wanted it cut. Maritza obliged. Mommy almost cried. Daddy got off work early for the occasion.

A little nervous about this hair cut. He did LOVE the shampooing though. Mommy forgot to take a picture. :(

Enjoying the lime light!

Look at all that hair! Maritza shared with us that traditionally you are supposed to save the hair from the first hair cut. Since this is Silas' first hair cut with us sweet Maritza bagged it all up for us. She said every African man she knows still has a bag of his hair. How cool is that?
And........the finished DO!

Isn't he handsome? Mommy is still not used to it. Its hard to see him without so much hair. I loved his hair. Silas loves his new hair cut. I have to say it is WAY easier to maintain and I love that he doesn't cry every morning when we're doing his hair.

Silas is such a cutey, I can't stand it!!! I just read through a bunch of your last posts, I did not know you were going to Ethiopia. How fantastic!! I would love to make a little donation for your trip and buy a few bracelets from your daughter (if she has any left). You can email me your address and I will send you off some money.

Silas looks like such a big boy! I love it!

I need to get Birhanu's hair cut. If it would stop snowing I might actually get out of my house to do it!

I hope you guys have a great Christmas. I'm sure Silas is amazed at all the wonder of the season.

Well, I think he looks very handsome no matter what hair style he has. Love his smile - contagious.

He is still handsome! Loved your post. I just cut my Silas' hair a couple weeks ago so I can relate to the sentimental attachment to hair. I had let it grow too, he had white blonde curly hair almost to his shoulders. I loved it. But with our intensly cold dry air lately it was so full of static it flew around his head and was a mess....and he was looking a bit ahem...girly. So on the floor was a pile of beautiful soft curls. But he is still handome in his big boy hair cut too. Besides that fro and my guys curls will grow back eventually ;)

How cute is his hair. His fro was adorable but you can see his sweet face better when his hair is shorter :)

Merry Christmas my sweet friend! It's been too long!!

I love all your photos, there so great. I am actually out of the pillow covers, those were fabric ironed on to pillow covers, but the decals you can put anywhere, walls, cars, strollers, trunks, there really fun..Hope you had a great New Year...
